Winter Cranberry Cocktail Recipe

Cranberry cocktail

Hello everyone! It’s Daniel, the other half of the Tol Tales blog. I have a lovely winter cocktail that I think you all will enjoy. I spent WAY too long experimenting with different ratios and ingredients, but I think I have achieved my goal of having a high quality beverage for you all that is easy to make.

The actual cocktail only has three ingredients and makes two drinks:

3 oz of cranberry simple syrup (recipe below)
5 oz of bourbon
2 oz of Fever Tree ginger beer

Add the bourbon and cranberry syrup to a cocktail shaker with six ice cubes. Shake for 15 seconds. Strain into a snifter or rocks glass (though just about any glass will work). Add the ice from the shaker to the glasses, and top with the ginger beer. Enjoy!

The most important aspect of this drink is the simple syrup, and the ingredients are as follows:

1 cup of pure cranberry juice (with no added sugar)*
1/2 cup of sugar (I would recommend 1/4 cup of sugar if you want a more tart syrup)
juice from 1/2 an orange
Zest from 1 orange
2 cloves

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small sauce pan over medium heat. Stir every so often until all the sugar has dissolved. Bring it to a light boil and then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about five minutes.
  2. Remove the simple syrup from the heat and strain into a container. Leave the container in the fridge until the syrup has cooled (the syrup will taste different at different temperatures).

*We get ours at Trader Joe’s because it’s the best price we can find.
